Serving Cowlitz County as a Superior Court Judge, with more than two decades of legal experience rooted in fairness, integrity, and preparation.
Judge Jill Karmy currently serves as the Cowlitz County Superior Court Judge for Department 4. As one of five judges on the Superior Court, she hears a wide range of civil, domestic, and criminal matters while serving as the current Presiding Juvenile Judge.
Judge Karmy is a career public servant with more than two decades of combined legal experience as a superior court commissioner, civil attorney, prosecutor, and private practice attorney. Prior to joining the bench, she represented clients at every level of the judicial system, including administrative hearings, jury trials, appellate courts, and the Washington Supreme Court.
Her decisions in every case are grounded in preparation, fairness, and experience.

Judge Karmy created the first Cowlitz County Superior Court Mock Trial Summer Camp for high school students, launching in Summer 2026.
The program is designed to give students firsthand experience with the legal system through courtroom activities, mock trials, and mentorship from legal professionals. The camp reflects Judge Karmy’s commitment to education, leadership, and community involvement.
Before joining the bench, Judge Karmy served as both a criminal prosecutor and civil litigator while operating a private law practice and working as a court commissioner.
During her time as a prosecutor, she co-created the first therapeutic court in Battle Ground, Washington and worked closely with local law enforcement to strengthen community partnerships.
Judge Karmy currently serves on a statewide Justice Gap workgroup focused on improving access to justice throughout Washington.
